Total number of unemployed in RF goes down in May

MOSCOW, June 22 (Itar-Tass) - The total number of unemployed in Russia in May 2006 reduced by 3.1 percent as against the previous month to 5.367 million people which makes 7.2 percent of the whole able bodied population of the country, a report of the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) says.

The number of officially registered unemployed in May 2006 decreased by 4.4 percent in comparison with April and amounted to 1.793 million people.

In comparison with late May 2005, the total number of unemployed in Russia reduced by 0.7 percent, and officially registered unemployed - by 4.8 percent, PRIME-TASS reports.

The number of Russia’s able bodied population at May 2006 was estimated by Rosstat at 74 million people - approximately 51 percent of the whole population of the country. 55.9 percent of all employed in April 2006 worked at big and medium enterprises.
