MTS adds 940,000 subscribers in August

Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) added 940,000 subscribers in August, including 400,000 in Russia, to have a total subscriber base of 66.66 million at the end of the month, 49.59 million of which are in Russia. The company also added 430,000 customers in Ukraine, to reach a total of 15.93 million, 110,000 in Uzbekistan to take the total to 1 million, 7,000 in Turkmenistan to take the total to 140,000 and 110,000 in Belarus, where its joint venture had 2.79 million at the end of August

Aeroflot Makes a Big Policy Flight

Aeroflot BOD will focus Thursday on a new review of proposals concerning deliveries of the long-distance aircraft, choosing again between the U.S. Boeing (Boeing 787) and European Airbus (A350). Bryntsalov Makes Ready Ferein for Sale

Presidential candidate of 1996 and pharmaceutical mogul Vladimir Bryntsalov has launched the pre-sale preparation of Ferein, the fifth pharmaceutical enterprise of Russia, the Business newspaper reported. The root cause of Ferein’s sale is the recent checks of the tax bodies, Business says, by results of which the company’s managers were accused of producing the fake medicine, including of famous brands of the West.AFK Sistema is tipped as the most probable buyer of Ferein. Deripaska Negotiates Buyout of London Arsenal

Russia’s tycoon Oleg Deripaska and some other businessmen are negotiating the purchase of majority stake in London Arsenal Soccer Club. Even though the talks are just at informal stage, the deal value has been estimated already – it could be around £350 million (over $660 million dollars). The preliminary talks with some spokesmen of the team’s BOD are underway, according to The Sun, but the club hasn’t been officially notified about the purchase. Mechel Willing to Extract Coal in India

Russia’s Mechel is considering a stake in coal assets in India and building a plant there. Experts say Mechel’s ambitions are well-grounded as India is to be in shortage of 100 million tons of coal in five years. The projects demand sizeable investments but Mechel’s investment programs limit the company’s financial possibilities. Norilsk, Rio Tinto, BHP to look for copper in Russia

MOSCOW (MarketWatch) -- Norilsk Nickel (GMKN.RS), Rio Tinto PLC (RTP) and BHP Billiton PLC (BHP) will in January-February 2007 choose priority deposits in Russia for joint exploration, Norilsk Nickel's deputy General Director Denis Morozov told a conference in Moscow late Thursday. Lockheed to sell its interests in ILS partnership
